A post-bed sewing machine is a 3-synchronized feed type of garment sewing machine. It uses synchronized front-back movements of the feed dogs, internal presser foot, and sewing needle to advance the fabric. The world's first "post-bed" sewing machine was a microcomputer-controlled home multi-function sewing machine invented in the United States in 1975.
Up until now, along with technological advancements, professional high-performance industrial sewing machines have become more widespread. At the same time, people's living standards have improved, leading to increasing demands for apparel, which requires higher and higher sewing speeds. Currently, specialized machines like buttonholers can reach speeds of 10,000 stitches/minute. Back in 1979, 41 years ago, the total global production of sewing machines had already reached 158,850,000 units, with China producing 58,700,000 units as the top sewing machine producing country at the time. Nowadays, the post-bed sewing machine plays an increasingly important role in the garment manufacturing industry.

It is a veteran in the sewing world with quite an interesting history. In 1790, Saint Thomas of England invented a hand-cranked sewing machine specifically for stitching boots and shoes using a single thread chain stitch. Although this machine had a wooden body and only some metal parts, it was the world's first sewing machine. By 1841, Thimonnier of France designed and built a practical lockstitch sewing machine using two threads.
After that, sewing machines continued to be improved. In 1851, American mechanic Singer independently designed and built the Singer sewing machine, with a sewing speed of 600 stitches/minute. Since then, sewing machines began to be widely used in various aspects of production and daily life, gradually incorporating functions like buttonholing, eyelets, bar-tacking, embroidery, and more. This was the precursor to our modern post-bed sewing machine. The "post-bed" machines used today are mostly metal components, so there are many precautions to note. For example, the machine should not be started or test run before lubrication. Also, the voltage and phase must be carefully checked to ensure consistency with the motor nameplate ratings, among other things.
