Correct Usage Instructions for Double Needle Sewing Machines

The advantage of double needle sewing machines is that they can more efficiently complete certain sewing tasks at higher speeds. There are proper techniques for using double-needle machines. By following the correct usage methods, it can be utilized more effectively. So what are the proper usage methods?

Firstly, in terms of needle selection and installation, generally for sewing thin, crisp, dense materials, small (fine) needles should be selected, while for thick, soft, loose materials, large (thick) needles are more suitable. Using thick needles to sew thin materials can cause greater friction between the needle and the material. When the needle rises, the material may randomly rise with the needle in the throat plate, slowing down the loop formation and causing skipped stitches. If fine needles are used to sew thick materials, it may cause the needles to bend or break.

During high-speed sewing, the intense friction between the needle and material can cause excessively high needle temperatures. This could seriously lead to melt holes formed in synthetic fabrics or cause the sewing thread to melt, increasing resistance when threading the needle and worsening top thread formation conditions, resulting in skipped stitches or thread breaks. Therefore, special needle selection and cooling should be used. When sewing low-melting point synthetic fabrics at high speeds, double-groove needles or high-speed needles can be used. The thicker upper section of double-groove needles increases rigidity, while the thinner lower section reduces friction between the needle and fabric for lower needle temperatures. For high-speed needles, the dimensions of the needle point portion and eyelet sides are 5-7% thicker than the needle shaft diameter, which can decrease heat generation from friction between the shaft and fabric.

Applying silicone oil on threads and air cooling during operation can effectively reduce needle temperature. Silicone oil is colorless, transparent, and volatile. At high sewing speeds, it can dissipate heat from the needles. When installing needles, turn off the motor power, rotate the hand wheel to raise the needle bars to the highest position, loosen the needle set screw, point the long groove on the shank towards the left side of the operator, then insert the shank into the hole at the bottom of the needle bar until it touches the top of the hole, and tighten the set screw.

Secondly, in terms of thread selection and threading, when selecting sewing thread, sewing ability, strength, and evenness should first be considered to ensure seam strength. Top threads used in high-speed double needle sewing machines should be left twisted with a medium twisting degree, and bottom threads can use either left or right twist. When leading the bobbin thread, first pinch the top thread end, rotate the main shaft to lower the external linkage, then raise it back to the highest position, pull up the pinched top thread end, and the bobbin thread will be brought up. Finally, place both top and bottom thread ends together under the presser foot in front.
