Opportunities And Challenges in China's Footwear Industry

Currently, China remains the world's largest footwear manufacturing base, with annual exports exceeding 10 billion pairs, accounting for over 50% of the world's total production. Compared with Southeast Asia, China's industrial chain is relatively complete, and most of the shoe materials and machines in Southeast Asia are imported from China. A perfect supply chain and comprehensive product support will undoubtedly shorten the production cycle and increase production efficiency for Chinese shoemakers.

As for footwear equipment, the biggest advantage of domestically made shoe machinery is its good quality and low price. when the quality is similar, mainland-produced machines are about one-third cheaper than those produced in Taiwan. Therefore, domestically made machines still occupy a considerable market share in Southeast Asia and even globally. Many Taiwanese factories even purchase shoemaking equipment made in mainland China.

Although the trend of transferring the footwear industry chain to Southeast Asia is significant, the chain is still inseparable from China. After all, currently, almost all of the transferred production is simple styles that do not require high craftsmanship. Materials, craftsmanship, and related equipment are highly dependent on the production of mid-to-high-end shoes.
