Vietnam's Textile Exports Fell For Two Consecutive Months

Vietnam's textile exports were only $2.28 billion in September 2021, down $377 million from August and $855 million from July, the second consecutive month of declines, Customs Online reported on October 28.

At present, Vietnam's textile exports overall showed a small growth trend. Textile exports were $23.41 billion in the first nine months of 2021, up nearly $1.23 billion, or 5.6 percent, from a year earlier. The main export markets are the United States, the European Union, Japan, and so on, of which exports to the United States increased by 11.1% to US$11.62 billion, exports to the European Union increased by 2.4% to US$2.75 billion, and exports to Japan by US$2.28 billion, down 11.6%. The main export commodities are clothing, cloth, fiber, non-woven fabrics, textile accessories.

Reported that at present, Vietnam for textile production of raw materials is still heavily dependent on imports. According to Vietnamese customs statistics, imports of raw materials from the textile and leather shoes industry reached US$19.6 billion in the first nine months of 2021, an increase of US$4.2 billion, or 26.9%, over the same period last year, with imports from China accounting for the largest proportion (52%), at US$10.1 billion, up 31% from the same period last year, followed by South Korea at US$1.86 billion, Taiwan at US$1.83 billion and the UNITED States at US$1.4 billion.
