An Interlock sewing machine is a machine used for edge stitching, typically used to join two or more pieces of fabric. It can perform four-thread overlock stitching, three-thread overlock stitching, or five-thread overlock stitching. In a five-thread binding machine, the left side has two separate lines, similar to a single needle overlock machine, while the right side combines three threads. On the other hand, an overlock sewing machine is a three-thread or even four-thread (with six threads) machine used for decorative stitching. It can also be used as a single-needle machine with both upper and lower threads. The upper thread creates a flat stitch while the lower thread forms a chain stitch, with one loop catching another. It can also be used as a double-needle machine, with two upper threads spaced 0.56cm apart, creating a flat stitch on top and a ladder-like stitch on the bottom. Additionally, it can be used as a three-needle machine (with an extra needle between two needles, spaced around 0.3cm apart) to create a ladder-like stitch on both the upper and lower sides. A four-needle overlock stitch is similar to a three-needle stitch.
Classification of Interlock sewing machines
◆Single-thread: Single-needle, single-thread stitch used primarily for sewing the edges of blankets.
◆Double-thread: Single-needle, double-thread stitch used mainly for sewing stretchy areas, such as the bottom hems of elastic garments.
◆Triple-thread: Single-needle, triple-thread stitch commonly used for sewing ordinary knitwear, especially for low-grade clothing pieces.
◆Four-thread: Double-needle, four-thread stitch, which adds an extra needle and improves strength. It is used for higher-end clothing and for stitching garment pieces subject to greater stretching and friction, like shoulder and sleeve seams, especially in outerwear.
◆Five-thread: Double-needle, five-thread stitch with improved stitch durability and production efficiency compared to the four-thread binding. It offers better elasticity and is commonly used for sewing outerwear and repairing innerwear.
Types of Overlock Sewing Machines
Overlock sewing machines can be categorized based on their purpose, including collar-turning overlock machines, elastic band machines, and belt-loop overlock sewing machines. They can also be classified based on their machine body design, such as platform-type overlock machines, suspended-cylinder sewing machines, and elbow-shaped cylinder overlock sewing machines. Among these, collar-turning machines, elastic band overlock machines, and suspended-cylinder overlock machines are the most commonly used varieties.
