Technical Features of Built-in Automatic Presser Foot Mechanism in Computerized Sewing Machines

Currently, many computerized sewing machines on the market are equipped with a built-in automatic presser foot mechanism to reduce the labor intensity of operators. In existing technology, the automatic presser foot mechanism is divided into external and internal types.

Now, let's analyze the technical features of the built-in automatic presser foot mechanism in existing technology.

Firstly, the electromagnet of the built-in automatic presser foot mechanism is housed within the machine casing, reducing the machine's size and improving the overall aesthetics and integrity of the sewing machine. This is indeed a positive aspect in terms of appearance. However, when analyzed from a technical standpoint and in terms of practical use, there are several flaws.

◆The unreasonable design of the mechanism and compact installation space limits the size of the electromagnet.

The strength of an electromagnet is directly proportional to its capacity – a larger electromagnet has greater strength, while a smaller one has less. In the case of the built-in presser foot mechanism, the available space for the electromagnet is insufficient and cannot be enlarged. This leads to instances where the electromagnet lacks the strength to lift and press the foot. Particularly, when the pressure force on the foot reaches 5.5 kg or more, the electromagnet often struggles to lift or hold the foot up. This pressure force of 5.5 kg corresponds to the force needed for sewing thick materials.

◆Poor heat dissipation and overheating of the electromagnet of computerized sewing machines

Due to the small size of the electromagnet and its relatively modest strength of around 4.8 kg, when the electromagnet is used continuously for a prolonged period, it tends to heat up. The compact internal installation space further exacerbates the issue, resulting in significant heat generation (temperatures reaching 65 degrees Celsius after about 4 hours of operation according to temperature measurements). Excessive heating can lead to the malfunctioning of the electromagnet, causing it to stop working.

 

◆Inconvenient maintenance

Because of its built-in design and tight installation space, maintenance and repair become complex tasks. Reinstalling the mechanism might cause the electromagnet to come into contact with connecting rods or cause friction with the axis oil pipe, potentially damaging it.

 

◆Elimination of knee control presser foot devices in some machines

In some machines, the knee control presser foot function has been removed to emphasize the automatic presser foot feature. This forced removal has garnered dissatisfaction among many garment workers. Most garment workers are accustomed to using knee control to lift the presser foot, and the addition of the automatic presser foot feature is welcomed by them.

 

Based on the above analysis, it's clear that the existing built-in automatic presser foot mechanism still has some flaws.
