Sewing Machine Manufacturing Process

In the realm of China's light industry manufacturing, the sewing machine is a widely utilized apparatus. Today, many consider sewing to be a labor-intensive manufacturing process. However, in contrast to the history of manual sewing prior to the invention of sewing machines, these machines were indeed cutting-edge technology at the time, significantly enhancing human sewing efficiency.

So, how does the manual sewing process work? Sewers need to thread a strand of thread through the small eye at the tip of the needle. The needle, carrying the thread, is then passed completely through two pieces of fabric, from one side to the other, and then brought back to the initial side. This process involves the needle threading the fabric, effectively stitching them together. Although this process seems simple for manual operation, it becomes much more complex when performed by a machine.

Returning to the era of sewing machine invention, an innovative approach was conceived: the "loop-stitching method," leading to the creation of the sewing machine. Through this method, the final goal of stitching was efficiently achieved. The principle involves placing a set of threads above and below the fabric. When the tip of the needle pierces through the fabric, it creates a small loop on one side, which is then caught by a mechanism beneath the fabric. This mechanism rotates to encase the loop with another thread or another loop from the same thread. This design is still considered a clever idea today. The core of the sewing machine is the loop-stitching system.

Finally, a series of sewing technology inventions were integrated and first commercially successful by Isaac Merritt Singer, an American. The Singer sewing machine, named after him, even became synonymous with sewing machines.
