A heavy-duty sewing machine is an industrial sewing equipment specially designed to accommodate thick and hard fabrics. In industrial production, we also encounter medium-duty sewing machines, which are different from heavy-duty machines.

A heavy-duty sewing machine is designed for rare thick fabrics. The needle, thread, and entire machine are designed primarily for processing thick fabrics, using a large shuttle hook, coarse thread, larger needles, rough needle plates, presser feet, feed dogs, etc. its target application is relatively clear. If you plan to buy one, you must consider whether you frequently need to sew materials with extremely thick fabrics, as other materials are not suitable for use.

On the other hand, a medium-duty sewing machine uses a small shuttle hook (double the size), medium-thick thread, medium-sized needles, and relatively small, precise, and stable needle plates, presser feet, and feed dogs.

Regarding the sewing thread, it mainly involves the specification of the thread (thickness, number of plies, and process), material, whether it is waxed, or other factors. For the machine needle, different machine models, especially medium-duty and heavy-duty machines, have different needle numbers and applicable ranges. Of course, industrial sewing machines have a round head with a groove, while household sewing machines have a flat head without a groove. Be careful not to choose the wrong one when purchasing.

Regarding the stitch quality, it mainly depends on the shape of the needle tip (indicated by different letters), the thickness and shape of the sewing thread, and the sewing skills of the operator. For the use of accessories and machine maintenance, it needs to be oiled regularly, and some advanced machines have automatic oiling. You need to constantly try and figure out the accessories that are suitable for your working style, such as the needle plate, presser foot, feed dog, edge guide, etc. Some brand machines also have a protective clutch installed at the handwheel.

Therefore, it is evident that there is a significant difference between heavy-duty sewing machines and medium-duty sewing machines. When choosing a sewing machine, you must determine which type of fabric you will be working with to choose the appropriate equipment, otherwise, it may backfire.
