Vietnam's garment export has maintained high growth in recent years, with more than 3 million textile and garment practitioners, which is a major industry making important contributions to Vietnam's GDP. At present, it mainly presents 4 characteristics:
1. We should face the reality of lower costs in neighboring countries. Compared with Cambodia, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, Vietnam has no obvious cost advantage. Therefore, the local government and associations are also thinking about the development of Vietnam's textile and clothing industry in the next decade.
2. The clothing production management is extensive, and the clothing production equipment used is also ordinary lockstitch sewing machines and cutting beds. There is great room for improvement in lean, automatic, and digital aspects.
3. The anti-risk ability of the textile and clothing industry is relatively weak. Some medium-sized clothing enterprises basically receive orders through state-owned enterprises or foreign-funded enterprises. They lack the ability to receive orders themselves and are purely processing. the textile and clothing association is also encouraging this pure processing enterprise to transform into an independent brand, and the localization clothing brand is slowly rising. In recent years, the per capita wage in Vietnam has been rising, and the improvement of consumption capacity will further promote the rise of local brands.
4. Some opportunities have emerged in the post-epidemic era. After Vietnam was closed down due to the epidemic, some workers in large factories returned to the countryside, especially those working in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi's large factories. When they returned to their hometown, they had some professional abilities and continued to engage in the clothing industry, which led to the establishment of some small and medium-sized clothing enterprises. On the other hand, there are also some private garment enterprises that transformed from state-owned enterprises, which has driven the vitality of the industry development. There are also some executives who go out to open their own clothing factories. As long as they have their own customer groups, they can receive orders. This scale is also large. Vietnam has some natural advantages, such as its geopolitical relationship with the United States and Europe, so many European and American orders will also flow to Vietnam. In addition, Vietnam is similar to the Chinese people. The people are relatively hard-working and can bear hardships. Therefore, although its clothing production efficiency is slightly lower than that of China, it is generally higher than that of other countries in Southeast Asia.
