Sewing Machine Performance Terminology(1)

Aug 17, 2023

With a wide variety of sewing equipment available and an extensive array of functionalities offered by sewing machines, how familiar are you with the terminology associated with sewing machine equipment? As an enterprise dedicated to sewing equipment for many years, Topeagle Company is here to provide you with an introduction to the pertinent language used by sewing machine mechanics to describe sewing machine performance.

Meaning

1

SewingThickness

The ability of sewing equipment to sew a good thickness of fabric is referred to as "sewing thickness."

2

Sewing Thinness

The thickness of fabric that sewing equipment can sew is referred to as "sewing thinness," while ensuring quality.

3

Layered Stitching

The repetitive sewing process in which sewing equipment stitches from two layers to four layers, then to eight layers, and subsequently reverses back from eight layers to four layers and further reduces to two layers, is referred to as "layered stitching." (This method is one of the ways to assess sewing quality.)

4

Thread Breakage

During sewing, when the top thread or bottom thread suddenly breaks, it is referred to as "thread breakage."

5

Skipped Stitching

During sewing, when the needle penetrates the fabric, but the bobbin thread and top thread fail to create a continuous stitch, it is referred to as "skipped stitch" or "skipped stitching."

6

Puckering

Due to an imbalance in the tension of the top thread and bobbin thread, they fail to meet in the middle of the fabric during sewing, causing them to be exposed on either the front or back side of the fabric, resulting in raised areas. This phenomenon is referred to as "Puckering."

7

Thread Loop

After the machine needle guides the top thread to its position and starts to retract, the circular loop formed during the upward movement within the short slot of the needle hole is referred to as a "thread loop."

8

Wrinkling

When sewn fabric displays pronounced wrinkles and simultaneously causes continuous thread breakage when attempting to flatten the fabric, this phenomenon is referred to as "wrinkling."
